A pirate ship sailing toward a golden vortex with playing cards swirling through the sky

The problem

Card battlers and roguelites can be heavy: accounts, currencies, daily check-ins, and data collection before you even play. I wanted something lighter — a game you could open, run, and enjoy without signing away your privacy.

The approach

Pirate Vortex runs entirely in the browser as a Progressive Web App, so it can be installed to a home screen and played without an app store. Every run deals a fresh hand, a new crew, and a different path through the vortex. Progress is local, choices matter, and the deck evolves with each fight. The same rules apply: no accounts, no analytics, no ads.

The reward loop

Winning a battle earns new cards and potential crewmates, but each recruit changes how the deck plays. The goal is not endless grinding — it is learning the combinations, reading the board, and surviving one more fight.

The outcome

A fast, self-contained, installable pirate roguelite that respects the player. No backend to maintain, no data to leak, just a tight loop of cards, crew, and the next run.
